The Dante Institute is operated by the Dante Alighieri Society, which was established in Jerusalem in 1949. After the enactment of the Law of Societies in Israel, Dante Alighieri was registered as a registered society in 1984. At the time of its registration, the society's board included Dr. Meir Max Varadi, A. Stern, Elda Tedeschi, Miriam Sermonta, Adv. Binyamin Lazar, Itala Leba, Vera Bachi, Rachel Tzarfati, Shemaya Smilan, Adriano Svettlo and Ruth Aharonson.
Previous chairmen of the society: Prof. Hiram Perri, Prof. Leone Carpi, Dr. Meir Max Varadi, Dr. Yehuda Pardo and Mr. David Patsi.
